Eastern North Carolina-style barbecue sauce

From Cook's Illustrated

Makes 2 cups. Published July 1, 1997.

This is a classic pepper-spiked vinegar sauce, without tomatoes.

Ingredients

1 cup distilled white vinegar
1 cup cider vinegar
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce

Table salt and ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients, including salt and pepper to taste, in medium bowl.
